The Vikingsholm Castle dates all the way back to 1929, when it served as the second home for Lora Josephine Knight. Mrs. Knight would visit this home in the summer along with the tree house she had built on the Fannette Island in the middle of the bay. The tree house is only accessible by boat, Kayak, and canoe. The story behind Mrs. Knight is quite long but the Vikingsholm Castle is very interesting. She built this home after visiting Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Sweden for design inspiration. She was extremely wealthy. This castle has 38 rooms which was only made with natural materials from the Lake Tahoe area. No nails, spikes, or pegs were used in the making of this house. The only things not from the Lake Tahoe area that were used to build the house is the Swedish windows that she had shipped over. You can view the Vikingsholm Castle via helicopter but in order to view the interior of the house you must be led by a guided tour which last 30 minutes. Admission for these tours is only $10 per person and open daily 10:30AM to 3:30PM.

My family just recently visited Lake Tahoe this month for a little getaway. We stayed at the Beach Retreat and Lodge at Tahoe which was absolutely wonderful. My three kids decided to be on the more adventurous side and do wakeboarding and parasailing while my wife and I decided to go kayaking. We went to a gift shop down town where we picked up my parents a puzzle for watching our dog while we were away. On the box of the puzzle we attached a Penless American Flag sticker with a video of our kids parasailing since it is close to the Fourth of July!

I highly recommend a vacation to Lake Tahoe!
