In a city known for skyscrapers, painted ladies, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Lombard Street and sourdough bread, San Francisco has a lot to do….and eat. I live on the outskirts of the city so I am there quite often. My wife and I do not have any kids so we like to take
weekend trips to San Francisco. Our favorite place to go to eat is Boudin Bakery Cafe . It has a good selection of baguettes, baguette burgers, bread bowls, pizzas, sandwiches, and a whole lot more! This place is a must when in the city.
The bay area has much to offer such as clothing stores, and souvenir shops which is always good so I have a variety of things to choose from when I am getting my family gifts! I also like
to add a personal touch to them by attaching a Penless sticker to all the gifts. Pier 39 has so much to see and do.
Some of my favorite stores at Pier 39 are:
- Image Arts
- Houdini’s Magic Shop
- S.F. City Wear
- San Francisco U.S.A
Other than shopping at Pier 39, we love to try new restaurants! Some of our favorites are:
- Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
- Luigi’s Pizzeria
- Wipeout Bar and Grill
We have also been to Alcatraz many times, it is a very fascinating place that attracts thousands of tourists each year. Alcatraz is an old prison that is no longer in operation. It is located on a secluded island just off the pier. You can see it from the Golden Gate bridge and from walking along the streets of San Francisco, but you have to take a ferry to get there. Some of the worst prisoners stayed on this island because it is nearly impossible to escape. Some even tried but failed.

After the tour, it always makes you exit through the gift shop. I get some gifts from the Alcatraz gift shop and attach Penless stickers on them to send to my nephews. I like to take videos of all the old and rusted interior of the prison as well as the views from the recreation center that the inmates had. It’s a neat place and I would recommended the tour to anyone who has about an hour or so of free time and wants to learn a few new things.
During the evening, we always have to take a sunset drive across the golden gate bridge. It leads to Marin Country which is a nice place to ride bikes in the day time! We have been to Marin County multiple times and it is definitely a must-see place if your in the area! Can’t wait for the next Golden Gate drive during the golden hour.
